I have a 2000 VW Beetle 5speed turbo with approx 96,000 miles. I bought it when it had 60,000 5 years ago. It's been a pretty good car with not to many issues until recently. Currently when driving especially in lower gears the car lags and has even stalled twice. At first we thought it was the O2 sensors but now we are thinking it could possibly be the fuel pump. The lag feels like you dumped the clutch but it only lasts for a second before it kicks back in. Any input would be great because I don't trust our local VW dealership anymore. Every time I've taken it to them (and payed their astronomical fee) they tell something different is wrong when it continues to present the same symptoms. They've already talked me out of 1200 to replace the console and another 900 for faulty wiring in the console.

It could be many things -ignition related -turbo related -fuel pressure -intake/exhaust issues -electrical?? If the engine light is on I recommend getting the codes pulled first that will point you in a direction.
