2000 chevy Impala headlights dont work Sign In
Hello, I have a 2000 Chevy impala and the headlights/daytime running lights don't turn on. I have tried turning them on manually, (with the switch) and still nothing. the relay is fine (put a brand new one in) bulbs are good, fuses are all good. there is power still at the headlights (the wire test shows there is power, so I don't think its an electrical problem) all my other lights work except the high beams for some reason seem way brighter then they should be...

I have done some research online and some sites say it could be the body control module.... what are your thoughts on that? could it be that? I know that is a major thing to replace and only a dealer can replace that. if I have my information correct?

anything else you can recommend I can check/change to get them to work again?.. (I don't even care if the daytime running lights come on, I just need regular headlights I can turn on at night to see when I'm driving.. is there a way I can bypass the DTRL if that's causing the problem?)

As long as the two fuses for the headlights are good; you’ll always have (or should have) power at the headlights. The lights are turned on and off by completing the path to ground in this type of circuit. In other words the ground side of the circuit is the switched/control.
With the ignition on and the headlight switch turned on and off; can you hear the headlight relay clicking?
If so that tells us that the request from you, (by turning the switch on) is being acknowledged and acted upon by the BCM.
Depending on your answer to this question; will determine which direction we’ll go to figure this out.
At this point in time I don’t think by-passing the DLR will accomplish anything?
