2001 Buick Regal LS 4.7L 174,XXX miles Sign In

Hi All!

I have 2001 Buick Regal LS 4.7L 174,XXX miles

Ill try and give as much info as I possibly can.
It happened a couple of weeks ago, I let my roommate borrow my car. I get a call and he tells me it just shut off at a light. The brake and shifter are both locked in position and when he attempts to turn the key nothing lights up on my dash. I do a transmission override to get my car into neutral, all of a sudden my dash lights up and I am able to start up my car. The engine dies and the brake and shifter lock up again. I do an override once more and my car continues to drive. However, the engine shuts off anytime I was at idle.
A few days later I decide to drive around my complex to see if it would do the same thing, this time my whole dashboard lit up, my speedometer fluctuated like crazy and my engine shut off. I costed to a stop, restarted my car, and parked. This time my service engine light, traction light, and ABS light were on. I needed to move my car a couple days later, a similar thing occurred, but this time my engine did not shut off but sputtered.

Let me know if I need to put more information.

I already have a ton of miles on the car and only bought it for about 1500, so Im really looking for whether or not it is worth it to pour more money into it, or if I should really start looking for a car.

Thank you!

You have a connection problem at a power supply, possibly at the power distribution box or ignition switch.

Would that be the answer for my brake and shifter locking up as well? Or is that a separate issue?

Yes, it requires power to operate the shift interlock. I don't know what you are describing about the brakes.

At least check battery cable connections. As Hammer Time said these items need power or do nothing so at a minimum the battery needs to be good and well connected both cables there and on to where then end as well,

some thoughts quickly came to mind-

2001 BUICK with a 4.7L ? you sure about that-
Scan for codes - yes especially if the CEL is OFF-
Is the security light on - flashing - steady-
Is there a remote starter -
