I have a 2001 Denali, w/ 103K miles. Periodically (1 time a month). We will attempt to start the car and it fires and then suddenly dies. We cannot get it to start for a period of 30 minutes after this happens. I think it may be a vapor lock, straving the injectors from fuel, or it may a security/theft prvention device causing this. What may be causing this?

Have you had it checked by mech? He can do a plug in with a diagnostic tool and tell you the problem.

Its too hard to say what it could be right now. Best bet is to do that. Once you have the problem, you dont necessarily need the mech to fix it. Once you know, let us know and Tom, Way2old, or myself can help. Diagnosis should take 5 mins, and most of the time is free, depending.

Arggh! If this only does this one time a month it could be a guessing game and after it behaves again the memory in the puter would reset after a while.

You may need to bring some stuff with you and catch it in the act and see what's missing - fuel or spark. Do get a code reading but soon after it happens. If CEL is on something's stored and maybe even if it goes out but just for a while. Doc is right - more places are doing a basic scan for NC - I think AutoZone started with that service,
