2001 Intrepid Valve Tick, Rapid Ind. and Defrost Sqeal Multiple problems from my wife's '01 Intrepid. Any help is greatly appreciated and will get me out of the doghouse : ) 1) What is best described as a valve tick. It does not diminish with time or warmth of the engine. Valve job time? Exhaust manifold gaskets? 2) Sounds like a belt squeal when climate control is set to A/C or Defrost. Loud and annoying. 3) From time to time the indicator (on the dash) flashes rapidly. This is an intermitant problem. For the past few days the indicator was normal and today it went back to flashing rapidly. When this happens the exterior indicator does not actually flash. When the interior indicator is normal the exterior works as it should.

Hmmm? Can't think of one problem to cause all this. The noise with A/C + defrost could be the compressor as it does get empowered with defrost request. Try unplugging the compressor at the compressor and if that ends the squeel and noise report back. Check that belt is tight enough and if need be remove it and spin the various pulleys. Some may make a variety of noises under load and not the same when no belt is on them but you might feel a bad bearing. Bearings in compressor itself only work when compressor is on and are stationary when off. The indicators (you did mean directionals/turn signals - right?) sounds like a strong drain perhaps at the wiring at or near a bulb and or a socket. It apparently isn't so strong as to blow fuses so hunt that down. Valve ticking might be a pulley and not a valve and is belt noise. Can't say without a check on the pulleys right now, T
