I have a 2001 Mazda MPV. It is a 6 cylinder with 119,500 miles on it. The problem started about 2 months ago it occasionally wouldn't start, no crank just a click. I could start it in neutral so we replaced the neutral safety switch. A day later it wouldn't start again, so I took it to a mechanic who fixed the work of the first mechanic. Now the gear indicator shows I am not in gear or N, D at the same time or Neutral and Drive, neutral when I am in drive, ect.. Can this be related once again to the neutral safety switch or another problem? Engine light is showing code: 0706

That code is related to the Range sensor which is another name for the Neutral switch.

Doesn't sound like he fixed much of anything. You need to find a competent mechanic that knows how to test and adjust those switches and cables.
