I have what seems to be a unique problem. When the outside temp drops to around freezing, my truck won,t start. Cranks over but acts like no fuel. Then runs fine when the temps go back up.
2001 Chevy Silverado

Once you manage to start, while the engine is still cold, is there any other symptoms?

No there doesn't seem to be any thing else.
2 mechanics have looked at it. nothing shows on diagnostics. replaced fuel filter. air filter.

Try to unplug the IAT sensor from the intake hose, it is usually located after the air filter and before the throttle body. Then try to crank the engine.
Sometimes this sensor can go bad and even when there is no check engine light. With the sensor off, ECU should assume safe values which can be easier to start the engine.
Ensure that you are using the right engine oil, but unless you are missing too far, for example, engine requires 5W30 and you are using 15W40, I don't think that would be enough to stop a V8 from cranking in the extreme cold.

No, don't go unplugging any sensors. That's just bad advice. If you do that it will tell the computer it is -40 degrees.
If you want to check your temp sensors, just look at data in the scan tool when it's dead cold and the 2 sensors should match each other.
You need to test your fuel pressure with an accurate fuel pressure gauge. This engine is very pressure sensitive and that is the symptom when it gets even a little low. The spec for the 4.8 and 5.3 is 55-62PSI and not a pound less.
