2002 Hyundai Santa fe with 170093 miles. Had it for 5 years with no major problem till now. I know I have a transmission leak and need a new gasket. But now two days ago the car wouldn't start. Got a jump and made it to auto shop were they checked the battery and said it was shot. I got a brand new battery, it was working fine, then this morning after driving for a few minutes all the lights went dim, the radio shut off, the car slowed down, finally all the lights went off. I pulled over just before the car shut off. I sat for 15 minutes and tried to start it and couldn't but the radio and clock came on, lights worked but after 10-20 minutes they started clicking and thumping and I turned it off completely. Not even the hazard lights would work properly. The battery light is on and so is the brake light. The engine light was on, but went off after the new battery was installed.

Sounds like you had a charging system problem all along and probably didn't need the battery. Get the battery recharged and then have the charging system tested. You probably need an alternator.
