I got a 2002 VW jetta 2.0, automatic, about 82000 miles. After about 30-60 minutes of freeway driving the speedometer needle starts to jump around. Could this be something to do with the transmission? It also messes up the cruise control, it revs the engine up and down as the needle bounces around. Ive also heard it make a slight grinding sound when it should be shifting up, which I know cant be good. Thanks for any help

This system uses an electronic speed sensor so an incorrect reading could cause problems with the cruise and may have something to do with the surging problem. The sensor & related wiring would have to be checked out to see where the problem is....... I suppose the easiest fix would be a bad sensor, wiring problems can be "fun" to trace down some times......
