2002 ford taurus help!!!!
|
|
|
so i have been having this issue for about a month. when i start my car it makes a scratchy noise and sometimes doesn't start but then after a few tries it works and sometimes it struggle's to start but works and won't have any problems for like 20-25 starts and it will do it again. last week i took it to a shop cause it felt a tad worst and the shop did the test and battery is good 12 months old, charge test was good and the starter test was good. tonight i went out it struggle to start and when i got back into the car it struggle to start and now i got home and turned it off and tried to start it and nothing. just one click and no more scratchy noise. btw all the lights come on, radio, windows work every time and even tonight the windows, lights radio working fine still but no car start up. any ideas? is that scratchy noise when turning it off trying to start was the starter and now the starter is done?

Your getting power to the car when the engine is on, or in accessory position. But no power to the starter, this is a ignition switch not connecting. can you connect a remote starter switch and get a start? If a remote starts the engine when on then fix the wire or replace the switch.

Np, there is no reason t believe the ignition switch has anything to do with this problem. This circuit has relays and solenoids in the circuit and the whole thing is controlled by a computer. The first thing that needs to be done is have the battery tested and all the casble connections, all the way down to the starter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

when i try to start it all the lights come on yes and radio as well. i am getting just one click noise. so you are saying the ignition switch is bad and not the starter?

The initial "scratchy" noise is a clue then this. Starter motor might test on a bench but not to turn the engine is what I'm thinking so far, T

No, we are not saying the ignition switch is bad. Ignore that response. The battery needs to be tested and al the cable connections removed and wire brushed first ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for follow up and will close thread as solved. Do as HT suggested anyway as routine maintenance as many electric motor failures can happen from poor power delivery. Seems back arsewards but low power makes them get hot! They don't like that of course. Good luck with a prolonged fix, T
