Are you saying starter motor is turning but not engaging flywheel? It's supposed to throw a small gear to the flywheel via solenoid which if so and stuck or inoperative starter would just humm and not crank engine. The starter drive (little gear included in starter) is supposed to freewheel one way and hold strong the other. Been rare to me to hear of that and a pro ear might just be able to guess that by hearing it - IF, IF, IF that is exactly what is happening. Other things like totally gone teeth on flywheel in one spot a maybe but that usually makes a horrible noise if so, T

I'm betting that happened because he jumped the starter across the wrong terminals. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I just cant figure it out,Like I said I left the key on an crossed the starter over,I even hand turn the motor just in case there where some teeth missing, starter turns fast but not engaging, and when using the key to start it ,it does nothing,I thought there was only one way to cross over a starter?

I wouldn't worry about the starter not engaging. I think you jumped to the armature instead of the solenoid. You are going to have to have the starter circuit troubleshooted to find the issue.

Watch out on that one. Sometimes those intakes will crack and leak coolant into the engine. The engine hydro locks and breaks the starter drive during cranking. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I think they solved that problem is 97. The TSB only covers up to that model year.

Yes, have it troubleshooted by following a wiring diagram.
