2003 Chevy Trail Blazer 4.2L 170,000 My Trail Blazer engine fault light comes on P0495 Fan High Speed, not sure what problem this will have with truck. It has happened a couple of times over the last year. this is the situation. When traveling long distance over 150 miles, when I hit speeds above 80 miles an hour 83 to be exact the truck throws engine light code P0495 Fan High Speed, when I get home from trip and clear code it never appears again until I repeat the same trip again. Is it faulting due to my traveling speed or is something else wrong. What will High Fan Speed Do? The fan if working correctly.

The fan clutch on these is problematic. For starters, dont go 83mph in a suv. The fan is overspeeding when then pcm is trying to tell it that it doesnt need to turn. The clutch is not cheap as it is electronically controlled. To really do diagnostics on that fan, you need a bi-directional capable scan tool to command it and watch values. Does the fan sound very loud sometimes with high rpms? Is that the only code stored? ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

Ditto w not driving this that fast no matter what. Other wild maybe but real is if the plastic air dam under front bumper is missing, at speed the airflow gets forced under the vehicle rather than creating a vacuum effect under engine such that air wants to enter thru radiator - real issue - they don't put a buck's worth of anything on vehicles if it didn't need it and speeds mater with those, T

First GC, I would like to think you very much for your advice about speeding, advice I will listen to. The fan does not sound loud at high rpms (or at any rpm) and that was the only code stored... Thxs.

I will listen to the advice about driving so fast think you, I checked and the plastic air dam under the front bumper is still there.
