2004 CR-V Fuel Supply Problen

2004 Honda CR-V 150,000 K. Car starts fine, idles fine, seems to run fine on level road and down hill. As soon as you load the engine, either try and accelerate quickly or are going up hill and apply extra throttle it seems to have a dead spot. You can tell it is not getting fuel as it lags and then surges as you play with the gas pedal. Fuel seems to kick in and out. Going uphill on freeway the other day I could not get it going over 70k. As soon as you back off the gas pedal, it will run fine (just slow uphill). Also, the check engine light came on as soon as the problem started. Any ideas would be appreciated.

First get the codes read and post them here. Might need to get a fuel pressure gauge on it, but pulling those codes would be the first thing to do. Many parts stores will let you use one. ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

Boyfriend called honda service about bringing it in for testing. They said it could be VTEC not actuating which could be caused by low or dirty oil. I checked the oil and it was down a bit. I added half a litre and drove around for a bit. Was about to give up when after about 5k the problem cleared up. Then boyfriend changed out the oil and filter and running fine today and the engine light has gone out. Shame on me

Yep, the oil is very important on the VVT engines. I'll close this question now as solved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
