Car has been running fine, tonight went to start, headlights dim, starter does not engage, thought battery is low hooked jumper cables up correctly same end result. Thought it was starter, rotated engine with a wrench, turned car over nothing engaged, crossed starter terminals with screw driver, the starter engages but does not start the car, fuel pump is putting gas to the engine. Visually checked the fuses (because I didn't have a test light) they all appeared intact.what is going on?

If it's not cranking correctly, then you have a power supply problem somewhere. Have the battery tested and check all cable connections. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Was watching and thinking the same thing. Dim headlights, no crank even with boost which on GM sideposts is really only jumping to battery itself and maybe just the touching those end cables gave it something to crank and possibly are all corroded out of obvious sight as they are covered. Just maybe not enough gets thru to power the car enough to run? Careful with that screwdriver trick at the starter. Key must be left in "run" position or nothing would happen with that. They make a momentary switch on cable to do that if only for testing. Get a dang test light. Even at NAPA they are under $10 bucks, T
