Posted this earlier, but tried to edit and it disappeared... I have a 2005 CRV with almost 60,000 miles. Four days ago, I noticed a whistling noise coming from the rear of the car. I only noticed it because I was sitting in the back. By yesterday, I could hear it in the front too. It's an oscillating whistle that gets faster as the car goes faster. When I tap the breaks, the pitch changes immediately, even if I don't really slow down. It's worse when I first start driving after the car has been sitting for a while. I've also noticed that the rear brakes are making a squeaking noise and now a scraping noise, particularly in the morning when I'm backing out of the driveway. One other thing to note is that the weather where I am is fairly dry and dusty right now. The car is going to a mechanic on Monday, but I'm wondering what could be the problem. As simple as brake pads?

Sounds like it's the brake pads making the noise. It could be the warning sensors making contact with the rotors or sometimes just glazed over pads will do that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
