Fault Code P0466. Ran the code and indicated gas cap. I changed the gas cap and engine light came back on and now something with the Purge Flow Sensor. I didn't think that could go bad. Any suggestions?

You must have got a different code the 1st time..... This code is for a plugged line in the evap system.......It takes high end equipment to diagnose. There is not much DIY stuff here other than throwing parts at it...

I just bought the vehicle and within two weeks the engine light came on. I took it to Auto Zone and they informed me the gas cap was bad. I replaced it and reset the code, two weeks later engine light came back on took it back to Auto Zone and then the P0466 code number was documented (not sure what the first code was). Could it be something different as some of the codes may be generic and indicate several possibilities along the same lines? Would the possible plug in the evap system reduce the mileage?

I don't see where they could've guessed it was a bad gas cap with a P0446.....Usually a cap will set a P0442 if it has a bad o ring or a P0455 if it's left off....but like any code, there is all most always more than one thing that can cause the code to set.... That's the problem with parts stores pulling codes....When they try to start diagnosing the problem, it's just a guess... Some evap problems can causing a running problem which could effect fuel mileage but then there would also be a noticable running problem. In this case the comp is running it's tests and expecting to see a reading going to zero and it's not, so it sets a code for a restriction......somewhere in the system Unless you have a high end scan tool.....it will probably need to go to a shop to be checked...

Thanks, I will be taking it in on Monday. I thought it might have been a quick diagnosis but too much guessing..

Check the EVAP canister vent hose. A bug probably made a nest in it. They had problems because for some reason spiders were attracted to the hose itself. They made an updated hose with a screen in it to keep the critters out. #4 in the pic Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
