2005 Jetta 2.5 Cracked Exhaust Down pipe Sign In

I just had the dealer replace upper and lower timing chains on my 2005 VW Jetta 2.5 As soon as I started the car when I picked it it was very loud. They told me it was a cracked down pipe/flex pipe. They state that its my problem an it is totally coincidental that it started immediately after their work.

Could they have broken this as part of removing everything to replace the chains?

IMO if it was weak and any added trauma that it should have endured it was due,

That's a bit too much of a coincidence for me. I would just demand that it was quiet when you brought it in and you want it repaired.

Possible right HT if it was pried on and broke that's not right. Can't be sure but will say if a job is finished and has a problem/noise/cracked pipe wouldn't you bring it up before declaring the car finished?
