I have a 2006 Buick Rendezvous 3.5L V6 with 87,000 miles on it. For the past month I have been having issues with misfires on all cylinders, stuttering when taking off from a stop, hesitation, and sluggishness. The only code that keeps popping up is p0404 which is an EGR performance code. I’ve replaced the EGR valve, cleaned it’s ports on the intake manifold, checked it’s wiring and tested it’s connection, replaced coil pack, replaced spark plugs and spark plug wires, replaced MAF sensor, engine air filter, and have performed several vacuum leak tests. I cannot figure out what is causing this problem. I have also read data and the O2 sensors seem to be fine and the catalyst temperate is around 1200-1400 degrees F. The only thing I have not done was check the EGR tube that connects the EGR to the exhaust manifold. Could a clogged tube cause these problems? If not any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have you checked to see if your coolant is low?
Exactly how did you test for vacuum leaks?

My coolant was low but that was a couple of months ago, I’ve topped it off since and it hasnt lowered. If it did, what would they insinuate?
I checked for vacuum leaks via smoke. The first time I did it I discovered the EGR valve was leaking, so I exchanged it with another and the 2nd one is not leaking. Another thing I forgot to mention is that there is hissing coming from my PCV hose (car does not have a PCV valve) if I squeeze off one end or push down on the connector then the hissing stops so I believe I have a vacuum leak there but did not show up when I was blowing smoke into the system.

Low coolant would make me suspect of the intake gasket.
It appears it does have a PCV at the end of that hose in the valve cover. Remove the hose and plug off the valve with your thumb and see if the noise stops.

Ya, I mean I refilled it because it was low but it hadn’t been refilled since I got the car 17,000 miles ago and I don’t know how long it was filled before that but if I did have a coolant leak I would think it would’ve went dry a long time ago.
You don’t think the EGR code could have anything to do with the sluggishness? I just checked the fuel trim and RPM while squeezing off the PCV hose the fuel trim went more negative. Would a vacuum leak like that have such a dramatic difference on performance.

Of course it would but I would also suspect you would have lean codes stored in the computer with that.
The EGR wouldn't cause that many issues. If it was stuck open it would only effect idle but nothing above idle.

That’s my problem, there are no codes except the EGR code. You would think that the way the engine is running there would be some other codes. Looking at live data, everything seems to be normal except fuel trims are looking a little more positive than they should be. I also was watching the EGR commanded and error. When starting from a stop my car stutters and hesitates and I can hear short, fast, hissing coming from the engine bay and the at the same time the EGR error has erratic, high negative readings. When the engine is not stuttering or hesitating, the EGR commanded and error are 0. I would take it to a mechanic but I already did and was told it could be spark plugs and wires but they weren’t sure and as I found out this was not the case.

? PCV ? Did you find the "hissing" noise there? IDK but in Hammer's diagram of engine and hose to it is no doubt a rubber elbow at least one. Also a grommet for the thing. Either could make noise the elbow or hard plastic (?) hose to there a split would be the noise and the PROBLEM most likely,

Yes, the hissing is coming from the PCV hose. However, the hose is brand new. I could maybe seal it. Any suggestions on something I could use to seal off the the areas where there is potentially a leak? From what I can tell it’s either the rubber elbow that attaches the hose to the engine or the little connection between the elbow and the engine (this car does not have a PCV valve).

It was a Ford product - doesn't matter, the car makers buy millions of common parts like a "rubber'' elbow. Some get thru just don't last for crap or totally not able to take heat, cold swings or oil/fuel vapor never mind if any one them. Cleaning an engine was wrecking them. Just saying had a long bad run with those + engines go brain dead how to run. Can look good. Finger on it or smoke whatever works, prove it,

Okay, thanks. Do you have any suggestions on how to seal it better? Could I use gasket maker to make a tighter seal? I’d consider buying a new one but doubt it will last any longer than my current one.

I don't know what you are trying to seal but you don't use sealer or anything else on rubber.
If something has a hole in it, then you replace that.
