They work on flat rate so they will have not desire to spend a lot of time driving it around but they will definitely take you money and tell you they can't duplicate the problem.

What you have is every tech's nightmare of intermittent failure.

Well damn.

Guess I'll drive the car like this until I can find a good independent mechanic, share all the knowledge I've gathered so far and hope for the best.

At least I know how to turn the car on when the problem starts happening so that is no longer a problem.

Thank you everyone for all the information, I've even learned a couple of things myself and I know nothing about cars!

It could would cost but ask up front before even staying with shop if a tech will ride with you or drive it so it does it. AYOR for them being a passenger - stuff happens that needs witnessing just like this - noises #1 just won't do it type stuff.

If nothing shows for scanning it or codes what else is there?

ASK! If not find another person or shop yet again with no hard feelings if they just can't,
