2006 Toyota Matrix Sputtering Sign In

Hello all, I’m new to diy automotive work. I’ve tried for a few months to figure out what is going on with my car. On a cold start it sputters/misfires when engaged in reverse or drive primarily. It has a rough idle and sputters when at red lights. The sputtering decreases as the car drives and warms up. I took it to a mechanic who used a scanner and found no issues (he also said he didn’t hear anything either)
Here’s a video of what happens. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0mvBD8sesXdb-EnRLaG3KS0aQ#Goodyear_-_Cotton_Flower Spark plugs replaced a few months ago and oil changed. Started with cold weather.

That video requires downloading and we won't do that.

The mechanic says there is no issue and there are no codes stored so maybe there is nothing going on.

Video of no help to me showed this there? ">iCloud has stopped responding.
An error has prevented this application from working properly. Help Apple improve its products by sending us diagnostic and usage information about iCloud.<"
Doesn't really matter this shouldn't care or sputter so codes are waiting and you already waited is a highly possible added problem when engines don't run properly, skip, sputter they are dumping raw fuel at you converter and killing it added to what is wrong.

Just a question on what did you mean by "Cotton Flower" plugs? If said to improve something they don't always go OE spec and brand there's just troubles not using what was intended. There isn't much you (the shop I take it) can cover up with them.

The info was probably on old plugs or code readings IDK maybe they took some guess that would erase it?

Other is how many miles and how much service history do you have on this? It matters now more than ever if you wish to DIY certain things that will help others help YOU,

Apologies for the lack of video, maybe this will help. https://youtu.be/1dimE9jbwQQ

As for the cotton flower, no that’s just an area where I live.

It’s got 210K miles, I’m trying to squeeze every mile out of it. I bought it a year ago and have been self serving since. Like I said the problem started when cold weather started. Any ideas?

Re: 2006 Toyota Matrix Sputtering Sign In

I listened to the video and it just sounds like unstable idle speed. The engine is kind of noisy and that's the mileage on it.

Try cleaning the throttle body.

First eliminate all vacuum or air leaks in the system (very important)

. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Late, sorry web shutdown on me! I did hear the ticking seemed excessive to me. IDK there's lots of valvetrain stuff in this YOU being right there if you can pin point the ticking.
215K on it takes some pretty serious attention to make that and lots more seems you only had a year you thought enough oil changes or a well rated oil hope that's what's been used.
Do check as Hammer said and clean as he said. I'll default never really heard an injector but spark can make noise I think that was too loud for stray spark?
Guess but think it's picking on one cylinder not sure but AFTER a good code reading if no good info would be canceling plugs or injectors see what make it worse and hunt down troubles for that cylinder up to a compression test in the cards may really shed some light on overall health of the engine at least know,
