I was driving down the road, returning home after a short drive maybe 10 minutes when there was a loud popping noise. Maybe more of a loud crack...hard to describe exactly. The dash lights went off and a couple of warning lights came on momentarily, then everything returned to normal and I kept driving since I was very close to home. It happened one more time before I made it home. The last thing I had done before driving it was take out the battery to charge it and then put it back in. I checked the connections and found that while the connections to each terminal were nice and tight, there was a loose connection where 3 wires converge close to the battery on the positive side. Loose enough for sparks as soon as I touched it. Could the noise have been arcing and could that have caused the other symptoms?

No, it wasn't arcing you heard but it was very likely the cause of whatever was happening. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
