I have a 2008 BMW 328i with the 3.0L. I have Diagnosed the problem which is the Crankcase Vent valve is bad. The problem I am having though is that I don't know where this part is located. I ordered the part from BMW and all they sent was a hose. When I look online it is more than just a hose. Some people say that the part I need to replace is behind the intake manifold and others say it is built into the valve cover. The reason I know that the crank case vent valve is bad is because when the car is running it is sucking air from somewhere under the hood and when I loosen the Oil cap there is a strong vacuum on the cap but once it is open the noise goes away and the car runs fine. Any help is appreciated.

I have repaired many of these on earlier models. This one should be the same. There is a whole series of hoses and a oil separator that make up this system and you have to replace all of them. This is a common problem on that engine and it causes vacuum leaks and lean codes in the computer. They are all located under the intake manifold and are very difficult to reach and replace. You can only get these parts from the dealer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
