2009 Mercury Milan cranks slowly, won’t start. Won’t jump start Sign In

My 2009 Milan premier , 185k miles. I4 . won’t start, will not jump start. I have replaced the battery, replaced the starter. Same problem. It cranks like the battery is low or the starter is dragging. Too slow to start the car. I cleaned battery cables and terminals, I put a jumper cable from the engine block to the frame of the car , thinking maybe the grounding strap, didn’t help. Swapped out relay, didn’t help. Looking for idea of where to look next.

New starter bad? A short in alternator ?

Were there any other issues with the engine that led up to this? Overheating? low on oil? engine noises? Sit for a long time?

You have an awful lot of miles on this engine.

No other engine issues. The car is a spare ( needed at this time) that doesn’t get driven often, it sits for months at a time, but was being driven for about a week when this issue happened . It is high mileage, but there were no issues before, the mileage were mostly Highway miles and the car was dealer maintained until recently.
My wife was driving the car when she pulled in the drive way a few weeks ago and the car died and wouldn’t restart. Being a spare I drug my feet repairing, when I had time. Replaced the battery and starter . Unfortunately my F150 is experiencing the dreaded Molded Lead Frame issue so I need the car .

You're going to need someone with electrical knowledge that knows how to perform voltage drop testing on the battery and starter wiring, both positive and negative to determine whether this is an electrical problem or a mechanical problem.

I didn’t do a voltage drop test as I didnt test each leg, but I did test the voltage at rest and under load. Even with jumper cables to my truck , same results. 12.8 V at rest, turn the the starter and voltage drops to 8.8 v at the starter and at the battery.

That's not telling you anything about the problem. A voltage drop test is the only thing that will tell you if you're losing any current.
