2013 Seat Altea - Intermittent Engine Start

Hi,
I’m hopeful someone can help identify the root cause here.
2013
Seat
Altea
1.6 TDI CR SE Copa 5d DSG
53429 Mileage
Below is a link to the intermittent issue, I’ll summarise below.
The car struggles to start first time and sometimes makes a strange rattle inside the engine.
So far I haven’t done anything apart from take the car for a drive, in a hope the alternator charges the battery, this helps (most of the time). Cold start is worse.
Occasionally an error comes up during the difficult start, for example “Error: Brakes. Workshop”. No fault remains on the dash after.
I was thinking to start with removing and testing the battery, giving it a charge via mains. Then move onto Starter motor or plugs.
Any help would be appreciated. I’m in engineering but not motors.

Forgot to add, the car performs normally once started.

Raw basics as the US doesn't have these. Seems battery power is a possible cause? Try to read live voltage while cranking it and again when running.
If it drops to low (voltage) the car's sensors for what to do to immediately start are confused. Then when running battery doesn't matter so much it buffers charge via the alternator keeps it within limits.
I don't trust what you see as warning lights while acting up AND not starting.
Everything to do with battery, cables and where they go matters.
Other is mechanic noise starter could be stressed working too hard with inadequate power all I know any machine should flutter and not crank at all - issues all from late for a good battery they don't last well just with age,
