86-merc cougar WONT START

1986 mercury cougar v-6 3.8 liter. car died while driving and wont start again, it turns over and has spark going to the plugs and also has plenty of fuel. i pulled the rocker cover and the valves go up and down. but i'm not getting any ignition. could it be my timing? or what else??? i'm lost...HELP

The ignition module on the side of the distributor was bad about failing on these year vehicles. I know you said you had spark, but without a scope, you do not know how much. Is the spark a real bright blue, or a yellowish-orange? If it is not a bright blue, replace the module.

Just to add, that stupid module does require a special socket to replace and they are a problem as way2old indicated. "Have you Driven a Ford Lately?" Remember that ad campaign? Simile T
