My '88 Jeep Wrangler dies when you slow down or stop. It cranks right back up but you have to get it in drive fast so it doesn't die. Wanted to get your thoughts and possible repair estimates if you feel pretty sure you know what it is.

Thanks!

Mike,

Is your jeep carburated? Can you adjust the Idle if it is?

My guess is that your Idle tubes in your carb are plugged. Its an easy fix here is a site that should help. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/jeep/engine-carter.htm OR http://www.jeeptech.com/engine/carter.html

Also have you taken the computer out of the loop? There is a way you can eliminate the computer out of the picture and make it run even better (for a carter bbd anyway) its called the "nutter" bypass. Another easy fix. http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/electrical/jn-ignition99/here is that website

I have found some of those if the 258CI six had carb mounting gasket loose and intake/exhaust to head loose enough to make them run bad and stall at low RPM. Snugging them up solved that back when,
