I have a 92 chevy lumina 3.1L v6. Im just now diving into the world of mechanics so hang with me lol. The car runs fine for a while at startup. Then once it warms up (im assuming when it enters closed loop and the actual sensors and components take over) the car almost cuts out when given quick gas, if the throttle is opened slowly this doesnt happen. Also after it has driven for a while, when you pull up to an abrupt stop, the car will stall out all together. I pulled codes 23, 32, and 42. I checked the digital EGR solenoids and they are all working, the connector to the EGR all check out ok with the multimeter and the passage to the intake is clear. Im at a loss.

Disconnect the battery for 10 secs to clear the codes out of the ECM. Then reconnect and start the engine. See which code(s) come back. The 32 EGR code won't cause the symptoms you have. The IAT code could be caused if the IAT sensor was unplugged with the ignition turned on or engine running The 42 code if reappears is going to be a fun one to diagnose. sorry for not stating in the origional post, i actually had the battery unplugged while i was working on it. I also cleaned the coils and inspected the cables which seemed fine. So after i did everything i ran the car at idle for about 10 minutes and the SES light came back on. So i checked again and it was the 23 code

also i drove it a few blocks and the ses light never came on again but it still when i came to a stop sign after a few blocks it stalled again. and still the 23 code is only code shown on the ECM. and as long as im looking at the correct sensor, it is plugged in and wires seem to be in good shape.

Make sure the throttle body and IAC pintle and bore are clean of carbon deposits. Make sure the battery and connections are clean and tight. The T engine will stall and idle funny if the idle learn is lost by disconnecting the battery or if the voltage level of the battery gets too low during cranking. It is important to be sure you have a healthy battery and good tight clean connections. Here is the manual procedure for relearning the idle: NOTE: On the LB6 (2.8L VIN W), LHO (3.1L VIN T) or L01 (3.4L DOHC VIN X) engines, If the ECM Is without battery power for any reason, then the Idle air control valve (IACV) position information for a stable satisfactory engine Idle Is "lost" and replaced with a default value. To correct the IACV position Information, perform an Idle relearn procedure using a Techline Diagnostic Tool. You can also manually relearn the Idle by following the procedure below. 1. Remove battery power for one (1) minute. Restore battery power and place air conditioning controls (if equipped) in the "off" position. 2. Firmly apply the parking brake and block the drive wheels. Start the engine, shift the transmission to drive for automatics and neutral for manuals. 3. Allow the engine to run until the engine cooling fan has cycled once, or a maximum of 10 minutes. 4. Turn the ignition key to the "off" position for at least 5 seconds. 5. Repeat Step 2. 6. Allow the engine to run for at least five (5) minutes. The correct IACV values for proper idle control will now be stored. Inspect the IAT wiring and it's connector really good. Sometimes the wiring at the connector can be broken inside the insulation. You can tell because if you give a little tug on the wiring, the insulation will stretch. The connector pins could be opened up too far causing a poor connection too. TAN wire should have 5 volts with sensor unplugged and the other wire (black) goes to computer ground (less than 0.1 volts drop) with sensor plugged in. With the connector plugged into the sensor and backprobed with your meter on the TAN wire, you'll get the voltage reading that corresponds what temperature the sensor is detecting. You can measure the resistance through the sensor itself to see if it corresponds to the chart also. sorry it took this long to reply. I realized today that it isnt so much happening because of idle but breaking. if it starts to stall and i take my foot off the break it comes back to life. I am hearing vacuum leaks under the intake manifold and i honestly think im just done messing with the thing. The ol lady is gettin a big pay increase in 5 months and we will just buy a new car lol. ive already put more effort into this than it is worth. I appreciate ur help a great deal tho.

Welp, if it is has vacuum leaks that is going to make the idle funky and it will never learn the correct idle adaptation. Just tell her that if she is interested in getting another used car to have her mechanic do a complete check out and inspection. I am sure you don't want to be working on another clunker.
