my 93 plymouth acclaim (automatic) seems to be unable to choose the right gear for itself. when accelerating it will hang in a low gear until there is virtually no stress on the engine at which point it will change gears . for instance if i were to try to accelerate while going up a moderately steep hill the engine will run very high rpm but not gear itself properly until the top of the hill or descending the other side at which point it will very unsmoothly drop into a gear and accelerate.and while decelerating the car will change gears like it was being driven as a standard by a very poor driver . i thought it might have something to do with fuel delivery and have added a good quality fuel additive to clean the injector as well as changed the fuel filter. what might be the problem does any one know.
