I just bought a 95 Merc Tracer 1.9L. The battery light comes on when started. The previous owner had an amplifier hooked up directly to the battery. I was wondering if the Alternator is bad from the amplifier hookup. I've placed a fully charged battery in, but the car still dies after a short trip. Once, it had died, the car won't turn over unless it is jumped. I can't even get it to Auto-zone to get it tested. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,.

I would assume that its the alternator. A new batter would get you started but the car would suck that juice up if the alternator doesnt charge while the cars running. There is an alternator output test but it wont do you much good if you cant get the car to a shop. I would change the alternator, best guess for what your telling me.
