I'm a little confused on the description here & exactly how far you tore this down.......usually when installing a key switch, it will only go in one way....Now if you had the rack apart, that's a whole different story, the gears need to be timed right or you can get problems similar to what you are getting, or it's possible you got one the gears to jump when you used the pliers......... Those are just a couple of guesses......but to get to the gears you will have to take the tilt apart which takes a pin puller.....It's up to you if you feel like tearing the column apart...... For the future....... Modules don't like it when some of the sensors & whatnot are disconnected & then they are powered up.....Airbag modules especially....They make tools call "airbag simulators" (basically a resisor with the proper connector) to hook in to the SRS harnesses if for whatever reason you need to power up a car with the airbag removed.... You need to be really really carefully when you are working on a system that can seriously hurt you if you do something wrong or at the wrong time.... You need to understand that these have killed people when they have been deployed at the wrong time..... Just realize what you are working on and think very carefully before plugging something in or hooking something up.....

The airbag shouldn't disable the car...I'm assuming it won't crank???..... Is the security light flashing??? You can try a 10 minute relearn. Turn the key to the on position and leave there or at least 10 minutes....If the security light goes solid, then try to start the car..... Just a quick shot in the dark.....You caught me right before I logged off.... If you try the 10 minute relearn, hook up a charger so the battery doesn't go dead.....You may have to try this up to 3 times to get it to work.....

I don't think this car ever came with any kind of immobilizer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sounds like you either broke the ignition lock or installed it wrong.
