When I turn the ignition on, I can hear the fuel pump start up and then stop. The car does start up for about a second before stopping again. I have taken the cover off to get at the accelerator while under the hood and added gas manually. It will run from that, but it doesnt seem to be getting any gas from the accelerator itself. When trying to start it up again without first turning the ignition off and then back on again, it will turn over, but not start. I replaced the fuel filter thinking that might have been the issue, but now I am at a loss when that didnt fix it. Is the fuel pump maybe starting to go? Additionally, it is a 4 cylinder, 81000 miles. I just recently bought it used and it ran just fine getting it home, but ended up sitting around for about 2 weeks before I could do anything.

Do you have a security light on or flashing when you try to start it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If you're sure about that hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see what the pressure is doing.

Wild thought to rule out: It ran fine on way home - you hear fuel pump or think so and only sat a couple weeks now tries to start and does for duration of priming it - right? Sounds really dumb but is there enough gas in this now? Gauge could be sticky, wrong and just bad luck parked at a slight angle where low fuel can't be picked up. If any question rule that out and it may not start up first try if that was it. Many cars will run lower (dunno why) than just ONE gallon will do it used that somehow when it was run last? If you try this I would only put in TWO gallons in case the tank is destined to come out you don't want it full, T
