? Rust as in leaking or clogging up filter and not running? Tank is replaceable and maybe use in tank fuel pump in new one not inside trunk but underside with likely problems with straps, connections and how it's held in place? You can search out a parts outlet for what a tank costs @ cost or choose to send it out and have it back done much quicker if a real problem in your face right now, T (edit in) Disposal of old tank could be a real hassle - think of your options on that.........

No, that is very dangerous and highly illegal. There has to be a metal firewall between the tank and the passenger compartment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Quoting 'colorado' ">>Anyone ever put a gas tank in the trunk? Is pump in tank?<<" Did you mean ADD another tank to the trunk? NO! OMG, NO! I thought you were asking if this was accessible from the trunk and think not. Tank rusted usually means lines, fuel vapor and lines may need redoing, fuel next as needed and fasteners to place it all back as it belongs. Not generally a cheap fix but a must if you plan to keep this car - no exceptions, T
