99 GMC SOnoma 2.2L, 5 spd, AC

Getting cool at night so I went to turn on heater.....nothing. Bottom or top vents. 1. Temp gage looks proper just under 200. 2. AC throws snowballs. Blower works fine. 3. Outlet heater hose feels HOT. 4. Inlet heater hose has a shield on it, but it is warm. 5. Radiator hoses seem fine...upper hot, lower cool. 6. I changed radiator about 45 days ago. Bled out all air then and double checked it today. I use Lisle Spill-Free Funnel. I back flushed heater core couple years ago. Should I do it again? Is there something else I am missing? LOU

Never had experience with this part. I assume it is along the bottom of the dash? Is this something I should be able to diagnose once I can see it? Blend door sounds like it controls air flow between AC & heat. This is probably it since when I was bleeding today, I felt heat in the front of the cabin, but only room temp out of the vents.

You need to flush until both hoses are hot. One being a lot cooler indicated a blockage. You'd better keep your fingers crossed that it is not the blend door as that will require removing the dash. You got me thinking about the blend door actuator. Nosing around I learned that it is behind the glove box, or thereabouts. So I started the truck (it was still warm), set: full heat, foot vent, full blower. Then wacked my hand under the glove box & to the left just below the cig. lighter type power outlets. Blowing sound changed slightly.....then.....heat!!!!!!!!!! I love CarJunky. And you are a great moderator. Close this job. Thanks again. LOU

Wacking the bottom of my dash was not working out so well, especially 70mph on Interstate. Eventually got stuck on "HEAT". Got a tip this part can be accessed by removing glove box. Well I got it done. Just another easy job if you got hands like a squirrel. 2 small hex screws 7/32 holds down the part, ignition wrench & finger drive ratchet did the trick. Not too difficult & pleased with the result.

Just a note Lou: 7/32nds and 5.5mm you see in some metric sets is the same size. Long time in use seem just to be really obnoxious on purpose some wall of a socket has to be thin as well doubles the pain, Tom

Thanks Tom, but my cheapo 1/4 drive metrics do not have a 5.5. But this 63 yo dug out his Craftsman set complete with "ignition wrenches".

Yes - have almost anything just hard to know where you left it/them 40 years ago! When or if just one needed my current default is reduced to one hardware store sells one by one sockets + wrenches. Not sure what you should call the high # SAE I call those the English sizes clever that no other size really works fractions up the 64th! Tom
