99 grand caravan Sign In

Hello everyone

can anyone tell me how to get the rear brake drum off a 99 grand caravan.

By rights it should just come off after the wheel has been removed but a lot of times there is a rust ridge that builds up and stops the drum from coming off without backing off the brake self adjuster.
Backing off the adjuster is just as easy as tying your shoes but also just as hard to explain to someone that has never had to do it.

You can bang the drum if you think its rusty with a rubber hammer to try and loosen it.... as well, if what dan suggested doesn't work.

So the drum is not held on by any pins or clips or bolts like I have been told by 2 different people.

The older Caravan’s and Voyager’s the drums and the hubs were an assembly where you would have to remove the tapered bearing to remove the drum. I not sure what year they changed to a sealed bearing hub assembly but now they are two separate pieces.

Can't say for every year but most "American" cars the drum just pulls off. Sometime they are a real pest. Use a rust buster and start with a heavy rubber hammer at the outer edges and a metal file can help. If you break hardware getting it off the parts are cheap and sold in kits.

Put a smear of grease on that hub and you'll never fight with it again.

Can't remember (for your car) - but many OEM drums used a clip like push nut that you can just break off and forget. TMK they were used so the dang drum didn't fall off when they made the vehicle.

If you see a couple small threaded holes they are for pulling the drum but I haven't seen that on a Chrystler yet. They should be 8mm bolts if you find that which will pull off drum. T
