My car recently started to run strange. It will not start without giving it gas. And wouldn't idol properly, check engine light would flash. I took it in and had the altinator and battery checked which were both ok. Found a vacuume hose that was disconnected and reconnected it and the car ran great for a few days. Then acted up once again. Had the engine light read and it said I had an air leak and a misfire I. Cylinder 1. I had a new fuel filter put in (severely plugged) an new wires and plugs. Found another disconnected vacuume line. The car now runs even worse. If it is cold it will not idol at all. The moment you remove your foot from the gas it dies. If it is warm it will idol around 500 rpm with the needle bouncing and car chugging and jerking. The engine light again is back on and flashing when the car is Idoling.

No, it didn't tell you that you had an air leak. It may have told you that the mixture was lean which could be caused by an air leak or many other things for that matter. If you have a misfire also, that will make it even harder for the engine to idle properly, even if it's not related to the stalling issue. That could be a totally separate issue. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum or intake snorkel leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
