2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V 75,000 miles 2.5ltr 4cy 6 spd trans this problem only happens when the car sits for an extended period of time 2hrs+ when i turn the A/C on the A/C compressor clutch engages HARD, almost like grinding a gear. after that hard engage, you can turn it on and off as many times as you like and it will engage normally. im assuming the A/c compress clutch is nearing the end of its life???? can the clutch be replaced independent of the entire compressor and avoid having to discharge and recharge the system? __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

You don't have to discharge the system to change the clutch IF you can get the front plate & pulley off without the pullers. Just make sure not to lose the shims behind the frt plate. Depending on where you live would determine if you would change just the clutch or the whole assembly. Here in the central Valley people run their a/c's 12 months out of the year. If the clutch is going then the compressor is usually following right behind. When I was in the NW I changed clutchs all day with no probs. There they use their a/c's maybe 2 months a year. Just make sure you have a good belt. I've seen belts make stranges noises that you would relate to normal belt noise.
