Alternator replacement confusion Sign In

Hello, we have a 1995 Olds Delta 88. The alternator went out and I am going to replace it myself but as I'm looking at it, it doesn't have a tension pulley. I know that it means the alternator get adjusted back or forward to put the right tension on the belt, but when I replace it, how can I be sure its the right tension? Besides disconnecting the battery, what else should I do/watch out for?

The belt is tightened by an automatic tensioner. The automatic tensioner is a spring loaded arm with a pulley on the end of it. You have to rotate the tensioner against its spring pressure to get the belt off.

You can get them very reasonable for a single car at /gforum.cgi?url=http://www.AlldataDIY.com
