Do I need to prime my whole car before painting it or can I just rough up the paint with a 220 or higher grit paper and respray with an acrylic enamel paint. The original paint is allso an acrylic enamel paint and it is being repainted the same color. Thanks Chuck

Chuck, Are you repainting the whole car or doing a touch up job? If you are repainting the whole car such as a rebuild project, I would sand it down and take off most of the old paint... Because you would hate to see the new coat of paint peeling because the older paint decided to start falling off. If this is for a touch up, then I would sand the sections around where you would be painting and prime it followed by a good coat of paint. You could also check at a book store such as barnes and noble, I've seen quiet a few good painting books for under $20, which could cover this a bit more.

The car is a project , I painted the car a year ago just to get a base coat on it to keep it from rusting (not happy with the way it came out fisheye and what not but the adheshion was pretty good ).The car sat for a year, I was hopeing not to have to resand and reprime it (the car is on a buget). If I am looking for trouble by not primeing it then I will deffinitly squirt it again. Thanks
