BLOWER FAN PROBLEM

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and the fan doesn't work on 1-4, it only comes out on 5. It used to do 3 and 4 but they just quit working too. Can someone tell me what would need replaced to fix this?

We replaced the resistor and all the levels work but it squeals for a minute or two when you first turn it on. Should we get another one and replace it or will that go away? I guess we just need to know if it will be ok?

Good bet here: That noise is probably the blower motor itself and it may have caused a strain on the resistor so you problably should consider just getting one of those, T

We replaced the blower motor first back in March 07 and then a few months later the fan quit working except on high so we replaced the resistor. Would the motor be bad already?

For whatever reason it seems like that motor new or not is causing the problem now?? Any warranty on it? I don't know what else would make that noise and go away?? T
