Blown shocks and struts after lifting tahoe

My wife’s Tahoe was lifted off of the ground with the wheels hanging for several days (at least 5 -10 days) when replacing an axle shaft. After the work was completed, my wife complained about how bad the ride was after getting the truck fixed. When we took it back to the service center, they confirmed that all 4 shocks were blown with new oil leaking from each. I am told by several dealers and off road shops that letting the vehicle hang in the air with the weight of the suspension pushing against the seal will damage the shocks seals. This Tahoe had 65,000 miles and 2 wheel drive driven by a 45 year old. Has anyone heard of this happening or am I the only person on the planet that has all four shocks go out in 2 weeks?

I seriously doubt you had 4 shocks fail at the same time but even if one failed, you should change all 4.
I leave cars with wheels hanging all the time and it has never ruined a shock seal.

I don't believe the fronts will hang on the shocks because the upper control arm will limit the extended travel. As for the rear that is a different story. I honestly haven't heard of that before.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I have to agree with HT & DS....
1st it must be nice to have the space to let one sit & hang there for that long....damn!!!....Personally I've never had one in the air for that long.....They always get pushed out..
& DS is right on point.....The controls arms, sway bars & other suspensiong components aren't going to let the shocks fully extend or put any undue weight on them...
There isn't any kind of wild lowering or raising kit on this....is there?

No bs I think it happens my envoy pissed all the fluid from the strut out on the shop floor today. I think it happens to be when there on there way out. I also dont think its probably the best position to leave a strut in fully extended. Im doing the work myself im not a master mechanic however im a industrial mechanic and the physics of it makes sense to me of how it could be possible. My vehicle was on a lift for an hour I certaintly think the strut was on its way out and week. I think 5 days though is a little much. Certaintly I think you would see a difference if you had 2 identical cars one on a lift for one year and one that wasnt. I think u would be asking for trouble.
