Broken passenger seat release Sign In

I own a 2013 328ix coupe. My passenger seat won't stay in the upright position. It falls forward and won't catch. When I raise it, it will fall all the way down until it is resting on the back seat. I have removed it from the car, but I can't see where it is not catching. I am afraid to dig any deeper without some information about what I can expect. So right now I am at a stand still until I get some information on what to do. I called the BMW dealer near me and they want $174.00 just to diagnose it.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You are likely going to have to send that to an upholstery shop and the upholstery will have to be removed to access the internal mechanism to see what the problem is.

The only other option would be the dealer.
