Good morning. I have a 2002 Toyota Camry with 105,000 miles. The "check engine" light came on and the mechanic determined that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. (Surprising for a Toyota?) He said he checked to see if just some components could be repaired/replaced but apparently not. The mechanic also said that the "Air fuel sensor upstream" and the "Air fuel sensor downstream" need to be replaced and then the car needs to be taken to Toyota to "reprogram" the emission system. Does this sound reasonable? The sensors together cost as much as the catalytic converter itself so I just want to be sure.
Thanks for being there for mechanically challenged people like me.
thanks.
M.

Converters get killed by other problems. Just replacing it will be temporary if the souce problem is not corrected. You shouldn't have to go to Toyota to get things reset and problem solved. They are a pain (Toyota Dealers) around me and independants can handle it,
