Can't pinpoint misfire problem Sign In

Im having trouble with my 94 s10 blazer. About 9 months ago i had a complete tuneup done to it, but now it is having problems again. It seems like a normal misfire but it sometimes won't start. Unusually, to get it to start I can unplug the coil wire from the top of the distributor and let it sit on its post and itll start like that, after i let it run for a second I will plug the wire back on the post and it will usually drive and start fine for the rest of the day. Unfortunately here lately the misfire has been getting worse and my little 'trick' hasnt been doing the job. I have replaced the coil wire and the coil itself. My finances are pretty tight so I have yet to replace the spark plugs or distributor cap until I (hopefully) get some advice. Any help would be appreciated.

Any codes? Have you isolated the misfire to one cylinder? Not sure what the deal is with your "trick". Can you check fuel pressure? Wouldnt hurt to pull that dist cap (gentle on the screws) and have a look at the cap and rotor up close. Look for cracks, evidence of moisture, charring, pitting, tracing, any of that good stuff.

If holding coil wire loose or away from tower changes it to run you about know it's messed up inside. That was an age old trick that could help or hurt in making spark jump a larger gap or thru a lousy spot that worked better at a fouled plug than at the dist cap.

Do anything not to break dist holding bolts as "goiserclause" just said and do take fuel pressure too,
