Car with mind of its own? Sign In

This just happened on my way home today and it has me pretty nervous. I have a 2001 Ford Mustang GT (94,000 miles) with a automatic transmission. I was driving 50-55 down a long wide open road and then went on the brakes fairly hard to stop at a light. I was stopped for about five seconds and right as a car was turning in front of me all of a sudden the car lunged forward on its own. Obviously this scared the ____ out of me. My foot was on the brake and the car was completely stopped and then all of a sudden the car is trying to move forward on its own and this car has a good amount of torque. Does anyone know what could have caused this? The car uses the old style cable to open the throttle body. Maybe it didn't close all the way?

This is very rare to me for about anything! Check cable that it is free, no fraying cable then look right at throttle body plates to see if they are fastened tight.

This is wild guessing on my part but sometimes with cable throttles your foot to the floor and the WOT don't match putting the force on the throttle body (carbs did that all the time if not checked when messed with) so it might have something bent. Wild maybe on my part?

I have found both things mentioned wrong but all were carbs,

T

I've driven the car twice since making that post and it hasn't happened again. I'm hoping it stays that way. I checked the throttle cable and it looks normal but I'm no expert.
