2005 chevy malibu not sure on engine size or miles off the top of my head over 170000.

Just bought the car off someone. Was running fine then one day went into kroger and came out the car wouldnt start. At this moment the car was clicking more than just once. Took battery to auto zone and they checked it. Wasnt junk but was dead. They recharged it i put it in started right back up.

Car sat over the weekend and again would not start with one faint click this time. Went and replaced battery to make sure. Still nothing. So with a new battery the car is doing the same tjing as it was a few days ago. Only difference is the first time the clicks were louder and it would click repeatedly.

You have a battery voltage problem, whether it is actually a discharged battery or a bad connection somewhere will still have to be determined.

Do as HT just said but wish to add. Check posts to battery for voltage when trying and again to the eyelet may still be hidden under rubber. It good with one and nothing with other new cable ends required.
If both get nothing the battery old it's probably junk. They are marked how old they are embossed in casing, find that and search out or ask how old it is meaning month and year it was made. If it already really went dead and was old (over 4 years old or bad luck. {{Note: sometimes new batteries Aren't close to new but sold as such NG from the get go!}} probably killed it,
