Checking Fuel tank level on F150

I have a 96 F150 with dual tanks. The Fuel guage doesn't work, the ammeter either for that matter. I normally use my trip odometer to keep track of when to get fuel. I was filling up what I thought to be a low front tank today and after 6.5 gals it appeared to be full. What is the safest way to check fuel level in the tank when the guage isn't working? thanks

Good one! You can try tapping on it or when fuel is cold, spray some mist (water or rubbing alcohol) on side of tank and the colder fuel will dry slower showing the level! T
