Chirping Noise When Brakes Are Applied?

Hi,
Today I noticed that my car was making a chirping noise whenever I applied the brakes. The noise disappears when I give it gas. The noise seems to be coming from the alternator. Today is the first day I've heard this noise. My region of the country is usually hot and dry, and it's been freakishly rainy and snowy all day. Could the noise be due to the weather, maybe wet brakes? If not, what could it be?

It's not uncommon for belts to make a sqeak when they get moisture on them. You could spray the belts with water (just a little) while the engine is running and see if you can duplicate the noise. You may also have dust build-up in the brakes that turns to mud when they get wet. A little investigation should turn up an answer.
