Hello everyone, hope everyone's doing well. So, my sister got a Hyundai Accent 2015. I pleaded against it but she liked the car. With her average driving, she managed to get some scratches on the body, most of which are from other drivers smashing their car doors against it. In comparison to my Honda City 2004, (both cars still have OEM paint), her car's paint seems to be very very thin and easily removed. We park in the same areas yet my car paint seems to survive pretty well. For example, I had an accident the other day where a small truck managed to remove 4x1 inches of my pumper's paint. When I looked at the hit, the paint on my car was really thick, unlike the Hyundai's. Please keep in mind that both cars are around basic specs and are of the same category. Can anyone please explain why? Could it be the age of the paint? the quality? or something else? Also, any recommendations on protecting the Hyundai's thin paint? My apologies for the long post; I just needed to explain the situation thoroughly. Thank you.

The top coat isn't even paint color. It's a clear coat. I don't really think there is ay large difference between the manufacturers. One car maqy have an extra coat of clear but that's about it. The actual paint color layer is very thin and only one or two coats. The paint is very weak and won't stand up to much of anything. The clear is far stronger and protects the color. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Tough question. One answer is paint isn't there to fend off being smashed into on anything I know of....... T

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just have the insurance cover most of them when the renewal period is due.

! Don' wait if you have damage with assorted dings, scratches and so on insurance isn't going to (none I know of) let you add them all up for one claim unless somehow they all happened from one incident each are there own and waiting if you think expensive enough for insurance will probably void the issue at too old to take up new as they would want to know of damage right away, T

What you're saying is logical, but I am hoping that the system over here is somewhat different as the person who verifies the damages is from a separate police department.

Is this a paint issue, insurance issue or a police issue as in intentional vandalism? Insurance is universal - they want you to pay premiums and do anything to get out of paying a claim - trust me on that one! T
