Door latch mystery

2005 Ford 500 3.0 L V6 SEL with 94,000 mi. Car was T boned in rt rear wheel and spun 180deg and up on to snow bank. Drivers side mirror got broken by impact which was apparent damage to drivers side except for front end. Body and mechanicals have been fixed by body shop. Now have a intermittent problem with driver front door latch that body shop can not figure out/repair. When car has set outside in freezing weather and then run for about 5 min the door latch will not catch when door is closed. Takes several minutes of exercising out side handle, elec lock and lock button and inside handle to get it to latch. Any ideas?

I don't know why that is so hard to figure out. The issue should be obvious when the door is opened up. Something is sticking in either the latch or related linkage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
