Drivers side seat is stuck

I drive a Chrysler Sebring 2004 model, the driver side seat has mechanical adjustments not manual. Today when I got in my car I heard a loud pop and the seat slammed backwards and will not come back up. When I push the lever to bring the seat back up the gear box makes a popping noise. Driving my car is now an ab workout and with two herniated disks in my back I'm having a rough time of it. If I can get pointed in the right direction as far as what part is broken or how to figure that out I can probably take care of this on my own, dealership wants 105 bucks just look at the problem lol. Thanks a lot!

No I think that I'm broke and every other mechanic I contact will look at it for half the price, They may just not have access to the correct parts... thanks though.

Parts aren't the issue. Everybody has access to parts. It's the knowledge and test equipment that they likely don't have. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is there anything you can help me with in regards to my question? I'm trying to keep my cool here because I need help and this is text which is difficult to attach tone to... but this is kind of coming off rude.

Apologies if my wording was weird what I mean is moving the seat around has an electric motor attached to it. Not just a lever you pull and push the seat.

That would be called electric power seats. To tell you the truth most of the parts involved are not sold separately. It is likely serviced as a whole seat frame. It may be cheaper for you to just buy a used seat and swap the parts you need.It still needs to be troubleshooted electrically to make sure it's not an external module or switch causing it.

I don't think it is an electrical problem if the seat isn't staying in one spot. The seat frame slides on the track via worm gears. If the seat back has gone gangster style, that is also operating via worm gear drive. Even if the motors or circuity is messed up, the seat shouldn't be sliding fore and aft and the seat back shouldn't be flopping around. More than likely something happened to how the worm gears are mounted or the transmissions the electrical motor drives. HT is right. You'll probably be looking for a seat track in the salvage yard. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
